Our Last Weeks in Utah 2020

We spent a total of nine weeks in Utah in 2020, but I could easily spend many months there. It’s amazing how diverse both in climate and geography it is. St. George is quite temperate with very little snow in the winter. To the north, Salt Lake City is much cooler. From my earlier blog Utah 2.0, here’s a glimpse at some of our other adventures.

Bryce Canyon National Park

When we visited Bryce Canyon back in October, we knew that we wanted to return.  As luck would have it, we got to spend two weeks about a mile outside of the national park.  The proximity allowed us to explore Bryce and the surrounding area in many more ways than our previous half-day adventure.  We visited the park by riding our bikes along the multi-use trail from the campground where we stayed, all the way to Inspiration Point.

We hiked the Mossy Cave trail at the north end of the park to see waterfalls.

I hiked the hoodoos from Sunset Point down “Wall Street” through Queen’s Garden and returned to the canyon rim at Sunrise Point.

If you know me, you know that I believe there’s a wine for everything. Wondering what wine to pair with Bryce Canyon?

Red Canyon

We explored Red Canyon, the area just west of Bryce Canyon, by bike and on foot.

Yes, we did drive the RV through that arch!

I paired a wine with Red Canyon too!

Dixie National Forest

We spent an afternoon driving some of the backroads of Dixie National Forest. The summit of the drive we did lead to an amazing view.

We spent some other time in this forest visiting friends who were boondocking there.

Utah Scenic Byway: Highway 12

During our time in Bryce, we drove Utah Highway 12, one of the most scenic byways that we’ve driven to date, from the red rocks in Red Canyon, through the north side of Bryce Canyon, along the Grand Escalante.  With temperature variation of 40 degrees, we saw everything on this drive from the desert to forests of Aspen trees just beginning to leaf out.

Springville/Provo, UT

From Bryce Canyon City, we headed to Springville, Utah, about an hour south of Salt Lake City.  We had decided to upgrade the Jeep that we’d been towing.  And our proximity to a big city helped facilitate shopping.  I’m happy to say that we are now the owners of a new-to-us 2015 Ford F-150.

Anne and Skipper visited Bridal Veil Falls while in town which was quite beautiful!

Somewhere along the way, I saw a sign that said bea-UTAH-ful! I have to agree. For me, it’s my favorite state so far. And while we have moved on to Colorado, I know that someday I’ll be back in Utah again!
